Health workers face mental health crisis, CDC says

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has identified an escalating mental health crisis among health workers. Data spanning 2018 to 2022 showed a marked increase in burnout rates, with nearly half of health professionals feeling overwhelmed by 2022. Additionally, instances of workplace harassment more than doubled in this timeframe.

This concerning trend was further emphasized by a massive healthcare worker strike, where 75,000 employees voiced their struggles with burnout and persistent staffing shortages. The strike stands as a testament to the depth of the crisis and the urgent need for systemic change.

In response, the CDC is advocating for immediate interventions. They stress the importance of creating supportive work environments and implementing preventive measures to alleviate the strain on health professionals and ensure their well-being.
