Amazon same-day prescription delivery expanding to nearly half of U.S. in 2025
Amazon is expanding its same-day prescription delivery to 20 more cities in 2025, aiming to cover nearly half of the U.S. The service, currently available in cities like New York, Los Angeles, and Miami, will soon include places like Boston, Dallas, and Philadelphia. This expansion embeds pharmacies in existing delivery hubs to enable faster distribution.
Amazon Pharmacy, launched in 2020 after acquiring PillPack, allows Prime members to order medications online with free same-day delivery for orders placed by 4 p.m. The company is testing drone deliveries to speed up the process. This growth comes as traditional pharmacies like CVS and Walgreens close locations, leaving care gaps.
Addressing "pharmacy deserts" where access to medication is limited, Amazon's expansion is part of a broader healthcare push. This includes its $3.9 billion acquisition of One Medical and ongoing efforts to fill healthcare gaps, despite setbacks like the shutdown of Amazon Care.
