Daylight saving time ends Sunday. What to know about 'falling back.'

Daylight Saving Time Ends This Sunday: Clocks will roll back by one hour at 2 a.m. on Sunday, resulting in earlier sunsets as we transition into standard time for the winter months.

History of Daylight Saving Time: Originally established by the Standard Time Act in 1918, daylight saving time aimed to extend daylight hours in the summer. Its use has fluctuated but became standardized with the Uniform Time Act of 1966.

Permanent Daylight Saving Time Proposal: The U.S. Senate passed the Sunshine Protection Act in 2022 to make daylight saving time permanent, but it has since stalled in the House of Representatives, leaving the current system unchanged.

Exemptions and Global Use: Hawaii and most of Arizona do not observe daylight saving time. While about a third of countries worldwide still follow some form of daylight saving time, it’s mostly observed in Europe and North America.

Health and Safety Considerations: Some experts argue against permanent daylight saving time due to misalignment with solar time, which could impact sleep and health. Studies suggest aligning with solar time may reduce traffic accidents and improve health outcomes.
