Scientists develop 3D printing method that shows promise for repairing brain injuries
Oxford researchers have 3D printed human neural stem cells to mimic the brain's cerebral cortex, signaling a breakthrough in personalized brain injury treatment, as detailed in Nature Communications.
Using human induced pluripotent stem cells, the team created a two-layered brain tissue structure that, when implanted into mouse brains, achieved structural and functional integration, evidenced by neural activity and communication.
The team aims to enhance their methods to replicate more complex brain structures, potentially impacting drug testing, brain study, and understanding cognition, highlighting the role of interdisciplinary collaboration in scientific advancements.
